Useful Tips on Floor Mirrors

Every room can have a mirror but it should never be the same one, it should be one to reflect the decor of the room. There are many different types of home mirrors which could complement a room or stand out as a bold statement piece.

What is a floor mirror? One of the common types of mirrors is the floor mirror which is usually full length or large enough that you can see yourself from head to toe. Every home needs a stunning full-length mirror and our silver glass floor mirror doesn’t disappoint. A mirror is a great way to open up a room and create a feeling of space and light. This stylish mirror is also handy when choosing which outfits to wear on special occasions. You can place a floor mirror in the hallway or in the bedroom for a homely finish.

If you are setting up a mirror in the room, you’ll add a basic addition, but also an indispensable item. Whether it’s in a hallway or grand ballroom, baby’s room or bathroom, the addition of a mirror will add beauty to the space and will make it more open or spacious. Wherever you decide to set up a mirror, make sure that it reflects something interesting. A mirror opposite of a window will reflect a lovely scene out there and create the illusion of another window.

A full-length mirror is a perfect addition for each bedroom, unless you follow the trends of Feng Shui. If you have a big enough wall, set it on it. If it is necessary, you can set it up on the bedroom door or the inside of a closet door, and will not be visible unless you want it. This will help you to dress. Make sure that the mirror is set so there is enough space to be able to stand in front of it. Floor Mirrors come in different styles, shapes and sizes, but in general, floor mirrors can be classified under three categories: cheval, traditional and leaning.

Cheval Floor Mirror

A cheval (a French term which means “horse”) floor mirror comes with a dual-pinned suspension within a frame, so it can be easily adjusted or tilted at various angles. A cheval-style floor mirror is ideal for walk-in closets. No matter what your height is, just tilt the mirror accordingly so you can see your appearance clearly. The mirror will adjust for you.

Traditional Floor Mirror

Traditional floor mirrors provide a view from head to toe. These can be free-standing or mounted on the wall. These are usually placed vertically, but can likewise be placed horizontally, giving the illusion of wider space, and an ideal location for this would be a narrow entry/passageway.

Free standing full length mirrors are highly popular for the obvious reason that it reflects your full body making it easy to see how your outfit looks. Some of the advantages of using a free standing full length mirror are:

  • They’re easily portable so can be moved around from room to room or from home to home which is ideal for anyone who rents
  • No holes or marks will be left on your walls as the mirror doesn’t need to be hung up
  • It’s handy when you’re unable to hang anything on your walls due to weak walls or electric cables
  • They’re quick and easy to set up as many come fully assembled.

Some of the best free standing full length mirrors go that extra mile and provide a particularly useful storage solution which is usually in the form of a slim cabinet inside the mirror to fit in jewellery and small accessories.

Leaning Floor Mirror

Leaning mirrors are usually available in larger sizes ranging from full length to a massive full wall size although the latter can be hard to acquire. These are a different type of home mirror as they are quite hefty in weight especially the overly large ones which means it cannot be hung up. Floor leaner mirrors can add a certain grandeur to a room as well as adding brightness.

A leaning mirror is ideal for anyone who wants a big mirror but is unable to hang it on the wall due to weakness, water pipes or electric cables. It’s perfect for people who rent too as many landlords don’t allow nails in their walls.

Leaning floor mirrors, as the name implies, are leaning against a wall, with only the top part touching the wall and the bottom part placed on the floor. These often come with elegant or intricate frames and are used as accent pieces to bedrooms, entryways, living rooms, and other areas.

There are also floor mirrors that are permanently mounted on the wall or a cabinet door in the bedroom or in the walk-in closet for personal use. Other styles are used mainly as decorative pieces in a room. In many large houses, you will find a standing floor mirror situated at the side of a room or right next to the front door. This serves both as a home decor and to brighten up the space.

Materials

When it comes to frame materials, most floor mirrors have wooden frames, while others come in gold or silver which gives an antique look and feel and can be great focal points in the room. Prices vary depending on the material used as well as the design.

Sizes

The size of the frame is another thing to consider. Make sure that it is balanced with the size of the area or space. For instance, a large area calls for a big floor mirror with a solid frame for it to be an effective design element. If the design of the room is simple enough, a mirror with a light frame may suffice.

Placement

Placement of the floor mirror should also be looked into. In general, it should stand alone. You may place it in an area that has less “traffic”. A floor mirror is usually designed to be a focal point in the room so it may be better not to surround it with other home decor or furniture.

Floor mirrors are available online and in home decor shops and showrooms. They serve as good decorative pieces and are easy to handle since many types do not require any installation.
